The forest, these old trees, this watershed, the spectacularly distracting views of the sea, the seasonal creeks, the miles of hiking trails. Raven, owl, hawk, bat, fox, hare, the wild doves that feed on the madrone berries in winter, the cubbies of quail grazing the meadow below as late winter rains bless the earth. A bounty of edible wild mushrooms and huckleberries bring great joy and delicious forays into the woods. We revel in the abundance and grace that comes with forest living and the honor to dwell among large prisitine ancient redwoods, madrone, oak, manzanita, myrtle and fir.
The property is 36.25 acres of wonder. Located on a ridge top at about 900 ft above sea level, just a mile, as the crow flies, from the Pacific Ocean. There are 180 degree white water ocean views that offer astonishing sunsets year round. This is truly a rare spot of earth, an uncommon property. A magical place. We have immense privacy here, and a feeling that one is in the middle of nowhere, but in fact it is only a 10 minute drive, about 5 miles, to the lovely small town of Point Arena. There are neighbors, great folks all, that reside on adjoining properties but one only rarely sees or hears them. This place feels and is very private and peaceful. It is incredibly quiet. You will hear only the wind, the sea and the birds. There are miles of road through the property which make for wonderful hikes with out the worry of traffic. Wonderful for dogs and people alike.
There is no ambient light so the moon and star viewing is phenomenal.
There is a beautiful grotto amidst old growth redwoods where we created a campsite complete with fire pit, picnic table and a bar fashioned from a slab of redwood. the creek runs through it in winter. it is resplendent with wild grasses, horsetail, fern, wild asparagus, black trumpet and chanterelle mushrooms.
Famous Bowling Ball Beach is just at the end of our road, a mile and three quarters away. I like to say this is 'our' beach, and we are most happy to share it!
Mark and I collaborated, designed, built and developed the property along with our dear friend Steven Baim and contractor John Seed. We began in the spring of 1989 and moved in the winter of 1990. We have spent all these years, going on 24 now, lovingly tending, cultivating and stewarding this land and home. We've done nearly all the work ourselves, and were fortunate to have several wonderful craftsmen help us along the way. We have two homes situated on the property now. We built the big house first and along came the two studios. Later we built this small off the grid tree house home on the other side of the property. There are two wells, both very abundant and healthy. We've gone through these drought years with no issue. We have two 4700 gallon water storage tanks at the house here and one at Mark's place. There are also two storage sheds, in addition to the pump house
We have a small orchard with heirloom apple, pear and plum trees. there is a fenced vegetable garden . ( sorry deer) We have always been devoted to the practice of organically and sustainably caring for the Earth and all we grow here.
